Whenever I return to my hometown in Penang, I will have a dilemma of what to eat. There are always too many things to eat and too little time. Firstly, I will think of what to eat and then where to eat but for Penang White Curry mee, it’s always just one spot – this 2022/23 Michelin Bib Gourmand winner along Jalan Burma (right opposite the famous Him Heang Tau Sar Pneah shop). It is called Duck Blood Curry Mee but unfortunately due to lack of supply, they no longer serve their noodles with duck blood cubes.

I will usually get my standard bowl of noodles (they do have a few noodles options including the rather rare sweet potato glass noodles) but with extra blood cubes and sometimes taupok too. I don’t like cockles so I will just go with the blood cubes, taupok, cuttlefish and shrimp. They do have other add-ons like roast pork and preserved egg if you like.

The spiced coconut-based soup is very fragrant and that scoop of well-cooked chili paste and drip of chili oil gives you that ultimate kick. The topping is fresh and comes together well with the creamy and aromatic soup. For me, this is my choice for white curry mee in Penang.
The shop is open from 12pm to 10pm every day except Thursday. There used to be a good Penang Char Koay Teow stall and a good Penang Lobak stall there but unfortunately, they have moved away.
