Sepang – The Underbone 150cc has always been the highly anticipated race category among Asians who understands the minute details that makes up for the race. Ahmad Afif Amran of Cardinals Racing
Team Malaysia, steady in his game is all set for Round 4 of the FIM Asia Road Racing Championship which will be held at the Sepang International Circuit this weekend.
The full-fledged Malaysian born rider has been well applauded for his suave moves around the circuit. Having been in the ride for almost a decade, Afif has earned his way into the mastery of
techniques needed to make a cut in the race category. With his professional abilities and confidence, Afif went on to pursue the SS600 category however not being able to find his footing, Afif returned to further enhance his professional skills in the UB150 category.
On his achievement this season, Afif said, “It was a good start for me this season as I have made it to the top three overall. For the sake of maintaining my position, I try not to pressure myself by pushing too hard. I want to do my best and collect the points that would help me retain my position.”
This season, Afif took one win at the Chang International Circuit for Race 2 and remained in the top ten position for the other races. Clearly, the dynamics of the UB150 race category has evolved with more riders catching up on the race techniques while being on a competitive roll. This has definitely placed Afif on a tough spot in maintaining his overall standing. With one casualty that knocked him of the chart this season, he now sits at the third spot overall with a total of 66 points in hand.
Commenting on the race category, Afif said, “In my perspective, the UB150 category is definitely a unique one. The character of the race category is similar to that of Moto3 whereby riders have to push themselves further every lap to keep up to the front group. In this category, time waits for no men. Every lap matter and that’s what makes it interesting for me.”
Sepang being his favourite circuit, Afif said, “As usual, the team and I will work towards finding a suitable strategy for the upcoming race. While Sepang circuit is my favourite one, there is a setback to it as it also provides the best opportunities for the other riders to strike. Being a long straight circuit, most riders are capable of finding ways to take lead and that is where the challenge is for me.”
