Khao Yai is located about 3 hours away from Bangkok by car and it is definitely one of the must visit town away from Bangkok for many. If you have not been there, this would definitely be an excellent 4D3N extension trip away from Bangkok.
We had a 3D2N trip there and it was simply too rush I believe as there were quite a handful of things to see and do in this little town in the Nakhon Rachasima Province. You can do a 3D2N if you just want to rush through things, but when I travel, I like to take it easier and enjoy the attractions, the nature, the food and the people. So end up, I missed out on a lot of things, so will have to make a return visit again sometime soon.

Since our time is rather limited there, we have to make a list of what are the must see and PB Valley Khao Yai Winery is definitely one of the must-see when you are visiting. It is Thailand’s first winery, setup 30 plus years ago by a visionary entrepreneur, Dr Piya Bhirombhakdi. His goal back in 1989 was to create world-class wine right here in Thailand so he started out with Shiraz and Chenin Blanc in a 20 hectares land in Khao Yai and celebrated their first harvest. in 1998. Today PB Valley Khao Yai Winery produces more than 150,000 bottles of wine annually.

When you visit the winery, they will take you out to visit their vineyard and harvest some grapes. We were told no matter when you come for a visit, there will always be some grapes for you to harvest, so no worries, although I believe the best time to go would be in January to March when the weather is cooler and when they do have their annual major harvest.

From the vineyard, next you will visit their production facility where you will learn the processes taken to turn the harvest into the different types of wine and brandy.

You will then visit the different aging storage facilities for the different wines and then finally you get to the gift store where you can pick up your own bottle to take home.

PB Valley Khao Yai Winery also have nicely manicured garden lawn and they also do have an accommodation for two (only one room in the tepee tent). Perfect to watch the sunset from here.

After our tour of the vineyard, facility and the garden, we adjourned for our dinner and some wine-tasting at their Great Hornbill Grill and Restaurant. The restaurant serves some amazing western as well as some Thai-fusion dishes and they were amazing to pair it with their wine (and coffee later too).

Oh how I still dream of these PB Signature Redneck Pork Ribs … and many many more like their signature Miang Bai Angun, or the Whole Seabass with Sweet and Sour Sauce or the North Eastern Thai Spicy Salad (Larb) minced fresh water barb.

Apart from the fine wine that we sampled, they also serve grape freeze (for those non-wine drinkers) and excellent coffee ya.

I would say it would be ideal to visit PB Valley Khao Yai Winery either in the morning or late afternoon (depending on season) to avoid a hot sunny afternoon out in the vineyard.
