Malaysia Superbike Championship Returns in 2024

Season 2024 of the Malaysia Superbike Championship (MSBK) will commence in May with a four-round calendar. The partnership between PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit (PETRONAS SIC) and Two Wheels Motor Racing Sdn. Bhd. (TWMR) will continue in a bid to progressively transform the standards of motorcycle racing championship for both professional and enthusiasts alike.

Ron Hogg, Promotions Director of TWMR said, “From three rounds to four rounds, it is not exactly a big move however, it would definitely be a driving force and boost for teams and riders who seek to have a more comprehensive experience. With an additional round in place, it would definitely provide better metrics in gauging the performance and development of riders. This, we believe would be value adding to all parties involved in the championship regardless of their competence level. Last year, we definitely saw a rise in the number of participants, locally and internationally. Even more so, with the introduction of the new race class, the CBR250RR Challenge Cup. Ideally, the race class was developed to encourage riders who have a proven track record to continue progressing towards greater milestones.”

“Moving forward, the goal to widen the outreach remains. In the last two years, there has been an increase in awareness which has stimulated interest and growth within the industry as a whole. This is quite evident considering the support and recognition garnered from participants from our neighbouring countries. We are happy to note that we already have a number of confirmed participants for the coming season. At TWMR, we strive to progressively up-grade our standards in meeting the expectations of our riders and teams while maintaining its unique disposition. Having said that, we together with SIC will continue to explore avenues for advancement with the best interest in serving the demands of the industry and the motorsport community. It is going to be an exciting Season 2024!

Azhan Shafriman Hanif, PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit added, “Firstly, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to Two Wheels Motor Racing (TWMR) for their pivotal role in uplifting the Malaysia Superbike Championship (MSBK) since 2019. Their continued commitment for the next three years (2024-2026) showcases a strong partnership aimed at enhancing the MSBK experience for racers and fans alike. We anticipate increased participation and a larger crowd with the expanded four-round calendar, contributing to the championship’s growth and development. As we support local motorsports, the MSBK remains a driving force, fostering awareness and interest in the industry, setting the stage for an exhilarating Season 2024.”
