MALAYSIA TOURING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP (MTCC) GEARS UP FOR ROUND 2 WITH LARGER GRID

Sepang – The newly-rebranded Malaysia Touring Car Championship (MTCC) returns to action this weekend for Round 2, taking place on 25 to 27 July 2025 at PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit (SIC). Building on the success of its season opener in May, MTCC continues to gain momentum as it enters the mid-point of the 2025 season.

This round will see a total of 60 entries across all categories, a significant increase from the
51-car grid featured in Round 1. Among the headline developments is the return of defending
champion Hayden Haikal, who joins the Malaysia Touring Car (MTC) category after missing
Round 1. Although eight cars are registered in MTC, five will take to the grid this weekend.

Azhan Shafriman Hanif, Chief Executive Officer of SIC said, “We are thrilled to see the growth
in participation as we head into Round 2. The return of the MTC category and the presence
of high-profile drivers such as Hayden Haikal are strong indicators of the MTCC’s growing
prominence. With championship ballast now imposed on the top three cars in each category,
namely M-Touring 2 (MT2), Touring Production (TP) and T-Production 2 (TP2), based on the
current overall standings, we are adding a new layer of strategic complexity to the weekend.
MTCC is fast becoming a cornerstone of Malaysian motorsports and we are focused on
building a sustainable, competitive and fan-centric platform that supports the long-term
growth of the industry.”

Alongside MTCC, the event will also host the second round of the GR86 Malaysia Cup (GR86),
which kicked off during Super GT Malaysia, with 18 entries and five total rounds in the season.
Also joining the action are TCR Asia Series Rounds 5 & 6, featuring 5 cars battling it out as the
regional championship crosses its halfway mark in a 12-round season.

For the first time ever, E-Sport Time Attack x Rakan Muda will be part of MTCC weekend,
bringing fans closer to the action and exciting chances to win cool prizes including a Hankook
tyre voucher worth RM1,760. This new addition aims to create greater accessibility and
deeper engagement for motorsports enthusiasts.

Meanwhile, fans seeking a premium race weekend experience can opt for the Paddock
Hospitality Pass, priced at RM318 for full 2-day access. General Paddock Passes are also
available at RM100 for 3-day access. Please note that the Festival Aku, Muzik & Kamu Indie
2025, originally set to coincide with Round 2, has been postponed to 29–30 November 2025.
