Getting its Malaysian launch is the 2024 Kymco AK550 Premium maxi scooter, priced at RM65,500 excluding road tax, insurance and registration. Kymco scooters are distributed in Malaysia under the Edaran Modenas banner, and brought in CBU with two colour options – Black and Matte Brown.
A DOHC, two-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine with a displacement of 550.4 cc and a Crossplane arrangement powers the AK550 Premium. A CVT gearbox and an exposed belt drive are said to transfer 50.9 horsepower and 52 Nm of torque to the rear tire at 7,500 rpm and 6,000 rpm, respectively.
The AK550 has two riding modes, Power and Rain, to accommodate different riding circumstances. The tank holds 14.5 liters, and the seat height is 785 mm. This maxi scooter, weighing 238 kg, has a horizontal monoshock with preload adjustment in the back and upside-down forks up front.
The AK550 has front and rear 15-inch wheels with tires measuring 120/70 and 160/60, respectively. Brembo performs the brakes, with cornering ABS as standard and twin Brembo four-piston callipers clamping 270 mm discs up front and a two-piston calliper with a 230 mm disc at the back.
The AK550 has keyless start technology, cruise control, and an electrically adjustable windscreen as standard riding luxuries. It is claimed that the space behind the seat can accommodate both an open-face and full-face helmet at the same time.
A circular TFT-LCD screen displays riding information, and separate readouts on either side display speed and additional data including engine status. Bluetooth connectivity to the rider’s smartphone for calls, messages, music, and navigation is standard.
