Umi Japanese Restaurant at Lexis Suites Penang has recently launched their new Shabu Shabu Lunch and Dinner Set with unlimited refills (for selected items) at only RM 60 nett per person.
This lunch and dinner set comes with unlimited refills of soup, sides the two main protein – ribeye beef slice and chicken slice as well as iced or hot green tea.
We had the opportunity to enjoy this buffet set a couple of weeks back during our trip to Penang and I would say it is one that is of value.
Firstly you get served with a loaded pot of vegetables, mushrooms, tofu and delicious miso-based soup plus more than a half-dozen of sides like edamame, takoyaki, green seaweed, jellyfish, chawanmushi and vegetables. Then comes two plates of chicken slice and ribeye beef slice. These items can be refilled unlimited times throughout your meal.
Then comes the other hot dishes, we got grilled salmon, fried saba fish, grilled teriyaki chicken and deep fried oysters. These are super delicious but is non- refillable. You can get some rice and udon noodles to go with these hot dishes or your shabu-shabu too.
You will then end your meal with some desserts and fresh fruits.
What I like about this promotion is the quality and freshness of the beef slices (must try if you are a beef lover) as well as the unlimited sides (you know how expensive Japanese food can be). The hot dishes are also very delicious – their salmon are air-flown in each Friday to ensure freshness and they are not frozen but chilled to maintain the texture of the fish. The deep fried oysters are huge .. bigger than most chicken nuggets you find out in the market and very fresh and tasty too. Fried saba was OK, usually not my favorite but the grilled teriyaki chicken was delicious.
