Trendiest All-Suites Hotel in Penang ~ Tropics Eight Suites

Beautifully design, the less than one-year old Tropics Eight Suites on Jalan Gottlieb across from the famed Penang Chinese Girl High School is living up well to its reputation as the trendiest suite hotel in Penang.

Located strategically in the Pulau Tikus area, Tropics Eight Suites is just minutes walk to the Penang Botanical Gardens, a number of food-courts, and Adventist Hospital. Tropics Eight is also just 5 minutes drive to Penang’s leading shopping malls – Gurney Plaza and Gurney Paragon and if you don’t feel like driving, Tropics Eight Suites has also tied up with GRAB to provide two RM 5 coupons off your rides from Tropics Eight Suites to anywhere in Penang.

Guests can explore the UNESCO heritage enclave of Georgetown or soak up the sun at the famed Batu Ferringhi beaches, all are just within a 20 minutes drive from the all-suite hotel. If you are a foodie and is in town – there are easily dozens of famous Penang street food outlets within a 3 km radius ~ including the Gottlieb Road Penang Assam Laksa, Bangkok Lane Mee Goreng, Bee Hooi Oh Chien (Fried Oyster), Pulau Tikus Lok Lok, Gurney Drive Nasi Lemak, Fatty Loh Chicken Rice and many more.

We had the chance to recently check into two different types of 65 sqm Premium Suite while the Roadtrippers were in Penang.  The first of the 65 sqm Premium Suite comes with a very lovely over-sized living area cum kitchenette cum work space, as well as a separate bedroom where you find a premium king bed and a relaxing reading chair.

The bathroom are accessible from the bedroom as well as from the living area, with a nice powerful rain-shower. The suites are finished in quality contemporary design with nice wood flooring with wood furnishings. The large suite is really comforting and makes you feel like home.

The Premium Suite also comes with a balcony where you can chill ~ overlooking either the greens of the Penang Botanical Garden, or the skyline of Gurney Drive and Georgetown Penang.

The kitchenette comes complete with a full-size refrigerator, microwave oven, full set of cutlery and tableware. I am told that some of the suites on the lower floors also have built-in induction hob. How amazing! Also in the full-size refrigerator you will find two cans of Coke and Heaven and Earth Ice Lemon Tea given complimentary as welcome drink 🙂

The other Premium Suite which slightly larger and had an additional sofa bed in the living area which separated by privacy screen. The design layout is slightly different to fit in the extra sofa-bed but pretty much carry the same contemporary design.

The Family Suite can sleep up to 4 but I would say if you’re just a couple visiting, I would prefer the Premium Suite as it feels more spacious without the privacy screen and the sofa bed. The bedroom for the Premium Suite is also slightly larger than the one in the Family Suite.

For bigger groups, Tropics Eight Suites has a 74 sqm Family Suite which can sleep up to six. The Family Suite has a king-size bed in the bedroom, an additional queen-bed in the living hall separated by a privacy screen as well as a pull-out sofa bed.

There is also another 800 sq feet 2-bedroom Suite at Tropics Eight Suites. The marketing team took us for a visit of the suite and here is how it looks like. The second room a little small but would be suitable for family traveling with children.

For those who does not wish for such big space, Tropics Eight Suites has the Studio Suite which is still large by comparison to most hotel at 47 sqm. In this Studio Suite, the king-size bed is located at the living area and adjacent to it is the kichenette and there is also a small room where the work desk is.

Tropics Eight Suites has a basic fitness center as well as complimentary use of laundry and drying machines ~ ideal for the long staying guest.

The indoor and outdoor cafe is just being completed recently but operations is only expected to start in a month or two.

Parking at Tropics Eight Suites is in its basement where they have a hydraulic double-car parking system ~ you don’t see many of these around in Penang for sure.

Tropics Eight Suites runs a few partnership promotions ~ one was mentioned earlier with GRAB and another is with New Bob Rent-A-Car. If you are flying into Penang ~ you can always opt for their Stay with Car Rental promotions at just RM 288 for a Family Suite and a 7-seater MPV rental for you to move around Penang.

In summary, I would say Tropics Eight Suites might not look like a 4 or 5 star hotel from the outside, but once you stepped into its suite, you will definitely think you are in at least a 4.5 star hotel suite. The suites and general area are clean and front-line personnel are professional, friendly and helpful. Room rates starts from under RM 200 and they also have long-stay rates which are much lower.
