We are finally getting a sneak peak into the much anticipated MRT Wat Mangkon which is located close to Chinatown. The new MRT Blue Line Station takes its name from Wat Mangkon Kamalawat or Dragon Lotus Temple which is the largest and most important Chinese Buddhist temple in Bangkok.
Images from BKKTrains Facebook page shows how the upcoming station pays homage to Thailand’s rich tradition especially the Chinese heritage from Chinatown. Decor of the station is definitely very Chinese, with deep red columns, traditional Chinese floral patterns and tiled dragons walls decor, golden dragon motifs on the ceiling and the roof of the staircase that resembles the underbelly of a dragon.
It would definitely be an attraction by itself when the MRT Wat Mangkorn Station opens to public in mid-2019. The MRT Blue Line extension will connect Hua Lamphong to Lak Song and another extension from Bang Sue to Tha Phra. The Bang Sue to Tha Pra extension with 10 stations is expected to be opened by 2018 while the Hua Lamphong – Lak Song extension will only be opened in mid-2019.
