SEPANG, 23 July 2026 – The Malaysia Touring Car Championship (MTCC) enters a crucial phase of its 2026 season this weekend as Round 3 heads to the PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit from 24-26 July, with the championship’s signature 300km Endurance Race taking centre stage.
Traditionally held later in the calendar, this year’s endurance race has been moved forward, making it a potential turning point in the fight for the championship across every category.
Unlike the sprint races that opened the season, the 300km contest demands far more than outright speed. Teams will face 54 laps or a maximum race duration of two hours and 30 minutes, with two mandatory pit stops, driver changes and refuelling all playing a decisive role in determining the winners.
Success in endurance racing often comes down to flawless teamwork, strategic planning and mechanical reliability as much as driver pace.
“The 300km endurance race is one of the most anticipated rounds on the calendar because it showcases every aspect of motorsport excellence,” said Sepang International Circuit Chief Executive Officer Azhan Shafriman Hanif.
“Success is not determined solely by the fastest driver, but by the collective performance of the entire team, from race strategy and engineering to pit stop execution and consistency over distance. This is the level of competition that continues to elevate MTCC while providing a valuable platform for the development of local talent and strengthen Malaysia’s motorsport ecosystem.”
Championship Battles Intensify
With two rounds completed, every championship remains finely balanced heading into what could be the season’s defining weekend.
In the Touring Production (TP) category, Leon Khoo arrives as championship leader and will be looking to extend his advantage under the unique demands of endurance racing.
Chiow Teck Song continues to lead the TP2 standings, while one of the most intriguing battles comes in the MTC class where Ken Wu and Russel Tan are tied on 50 championship points, setting up a fascinating duel.
The MT2-V category sees Divvyesh Perajun and Harkiesh Geeva holding the advantage, while Ady Rahimy Rashid and Najiy Ayyad lead the MT2-G championship. However, with endurance racing often producing unexpected twists, the standings could look very different by the end of Sunday’s race.
A Full Weekend of Motorsport
The weekend promises more than just MTCC action.
Joining the programme are several fan-favourite support categories including the Toyota Vios Challenge, Toyota GR86 Cup Malaysia Series, and the Asia Classic Car Challenge, ensuring continuous racing throughout the three-day event.
Off the circuit, spectators can also participate in a range of activities including the Race2Learn@SIC programme, which gives students an exclusive look behind the scenes of the motorsport industry.
Fans can also test themselves in the SIC Virtual Hot Laps Challenge, where participants stand a chance to win a RM1,760 Hankook tyre voucher, while the ever-popular Taxi Ride experience returns, offering passengers the thrill of high-speed laps around the Sepang circuit.
Making its MTCC debut is the Gymkhana X Coaching programme by Wheelspin Motorsport Club, introducing newcomers to the fundamentals of precision driving through practical coaching in braking, vehicle control, cornering and car handling—another step towards strengthening grassroots motorsport development in Malaysia.

Fans can enjoy the racing from the Main Grandstand free of charge, while Paddock Access starts from RM100 and Paddock Hospitality packages are available from RM378 for those wanting an even closer experience.
The action will also be broadcast nationwide through TV Sarawak, with race schedules, results and championship standings available via Sepang International Circuit’s official digital platforms throughout the weekend.
