MODENAS Z15GT: Malaysia’s First Fully Localised Supermoped Sets a New Benchmark for Innovation and National Pride

Sepang, Malaysia – 24 October 2025 – Motosikal dan Enjin Nasional Sdn Bhd (MODENAS), Malaysia’s national motorcycle manufacturer under the DRB-HICOM Group, has marked a major milestone in local automotive history with the launch of the all-new MODENAS Z15GT — the brand’s first fully Malaysian-developed supermoped, blending national ingenuity with Kawasaki’s legendary DNA.

Unveiled during the MotoGP Malaysia weekend at Sepang International Circuit, the Z15GT is the culmination of over three years of research and development by a team of 31 Malaysian engineers, designers, and technicians. The result is MODENAS’ most advanced motorcycle to date — one that positions Malaysia alongside global legacy brands in the fiercely competitive 150cc supermoped segment.

“From sketches in Gurun to validation in Japan, and production back in Gurun, the Z15GT is proof that Malaysian talent can compete globally,” said Roslan Roskan, CEO of MODENAS. “This motorcycle is not just a product — it is a statement of intent. MODENAS is ready to stand on par with legacy brands, delivering innovation, reliability, and pride for Malaysian riders.”

A Malaysian Masterpiece with Kawasaki DNA

The Z15GT was developed entirely in-house, with technical support from Kawasaki Motors Corporation (KMC). As part of the collaboration, eight Malaysian engineers trained with Kawasaki in Japan, while others underwent specialised engine design training in Austria.

Drawing inspiration from Kawasaki’s iconic Sugomi design philosophy — known for its bold and aggressive aesthetics — the Z15GT also incorporates elements from Malaysia’s cultural symbol, the Arowana fish, representing strength and pride.

Performance Meets Practicality

The Z15GT delivers a class-leading balance of performance, safety, and everyday usability, featuring:

  • Most powerful engine in its class (12.5kW at 9,500rpm)
  • Largest fuel tank at 5.7 litres for extended range
  • ABS braking system for added safety
  • Smart Key system, hazard light function, and built-in power socket for modern convenience

“The Z15GT combines everything today’s riders demand — power, safety, technology, and style — all at a value that will surprise the market,” said Jin Inoue, Chief Marketing Officer of MODENAS.

Championing Malaysia’s Industrial Vision

Proudly certified as an Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV), the Z15GT boasts a 78% localisation rate, directly supporting Malaysia’s National Automotive Policy 2020 (NAP2020) and the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030).

Built at the MODENAS Gurun plant in Kedah, which has the capacity to produce up to 77,000 units annually, the Z15GT underlines Malaysia’s readiness to scale both domestically and for export.

From Gurun to the World

Deliveries for the Malaysian market begin on 27 October 2025, with MODENAS targeting 2,250 units per month (or 27,000 units annually). From 2026 to 2030, the company aims to export 60,000 units to key international markets including the Philippines, Greece, Türkiye, and Cambodia, strengthening its position as an ASEAN motorcycle hub.

Available in Graphite Grey, Nardo Grey, and Rosso Red, the Z15GT combines performance with bold aesthetics — embodying both Malaysia’s creativity and engineering excellence.

“This is Malaysia’s answer to the legacy brands,” added Roslan. “From Gurun to the world — the Z15GT is more than a motorcycle. It is a symbol of Malaysia’s industrial and creative strength.”

The MODENAS Z15GT will be available nationwide from 27 October 2025 at an introductory price of RM8,288 (excluding insurance and registration fees).
