We had an opportunity to check in and stay at this elegant golf and spa resort on the exclusive Klong Muang Beach in Krabi earlier this month and it was amazing. The Sofitel Krabi Phokeethra Golf and Spa Resort, is perfectly set-up on a whopping 120-acres of lush beautiful well manicured garden overlooking the Andaman Sea. This self-contained colonial-styled resort has 276 rooms and suites and is situated about 30 minutes from the heart of Krabi-town or about 20 minutes from Ao Nang beach. It has its own 9-hole golf course – the best in Krabi and also the largest free-form swimming pool in all of Thailand.
We arrived rather late at the hotel because of the rain along the drive up from Dannok but weather clears up just before we reached the hotel. Check in for the hotel was simple and easy and we were given a brief tour of the properties – the various food outlets – Ristorante Venezia (serving Italian), White Lotus (serving fusion Indian and Thai), Maya Restaurant (International Cuisine and Buffet), the Le Glacier (home-made ice-cream, smoothies, milkshakes and bakery) and Koh Poda (the pool bar and restaurant), the amazing swimming pool, the SO Spa by L’Occitane, the sunset beach where hotel guests can arrange for private island tours on speedboats or longtails and also the suite that the Thai Princess stayed while on her trip to Krabi.
Our room – the Luxury Terrace Room was on the Ground Floor of the property and it has a sliding door that opens up to the terrace and garden. The room is furnished with classic wood furniture on hard wood flooring, giving the hotel a very classic European feel to the room (as well as the exterior colonial design of the building). The rooms are spacious – 54m², well appointed and very comfortable with the Sofitel Signature Beds – MyBeds.
The bathroom is big and well lit – complete with a bathtub and a separate shower stall with good water pressure. Bath amenities are branded from L’Occitane.
One of the highlight of Sofitel Krabi Phokeethra Golf and Spa Resort is definitely the 7000 square meters free-form swimming pool which include the Koh Poda – the swim-up pool bar and restaurant, a jacuzzi and also a kids pool. We had a great time at the pool (not enough time though as the pool closes at 7pm).
The breakfast at Maya Restaurant offers a wide variety of Western and Asian cuisine with fresh juices. The food standard is excellent and choices are bountiful. You have choices of breads, breakfast meat, cold cuts, cheese and fruits, salads, cook-to-order noodles, dimsum, choices of egg and also the dessert station. The breakfast is AMAZING !!!!
After breakfast and enjoying the well groomed tropical gardens around the properties, we dropped by the SO Spa by L’Occitane where there are 12 private and couple treatment rooms offering guests rejuvenating therapies of French contemporary cosmetology infused with ancient Thai rituals.
Room rates at the Sofitel Krabi Phokeethra Golf and Spa Resorts starts from about RM 1,300 a night and our conclusion is we didn’t have enough time to spend at this amazing resort. We hope that one day we will be able to go back to this resort and spend a good week or at least a 4D3N doing nothing but just to kick back, relax and enjoy.
