Imagine walking into a 1000++ sqf suite in a luxury 5-star hotel in Damansara, Kuala Lumpur for under RM700 a night? You must be thinking that it’s impossible, but I got the Opera Suite at Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara on April 9 at just RM 675 nett and a random date check on Agoda after we moved into the endemic-stage recently shows a slightly higher rates at RM 1,053 including breakfast for two with access to the Club Millesime.
Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara is Accor’s 5-star brand of hotel and this is the only Sofitel branded property in Malaysia. Linked to the Damansara City Mall (or DC Mall), the property is located in between Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya and is easily accessible by car or MRT.
The hotel boast a very impressive lobby, and a lobby bar, Le Bar Cocktail & Stories that serves a popular high-tea set during the weekends as well as some wonderful cakes and pastries from La Boulangerie. It also boast a few dining outlets, including Kwee Zeen, an all-day dining, Wan Chun Ting, a fine Chinese Restaurant, Nizza, a French-Italian chic dining outlet, a pool bar and also a Cigar Lounge by Trinidad.
Personally, I had only dined at Kwee Zeen for their breakfast as well as a couple of dinners before, but yet to try out their fine Chinese or the French-Italian Nizza, maybe some day soon.
Amenities wise, the hotel has a very large free-form swimming pool with a few cabanas and sunken area for relaxation, a fitness center and the Sofitel SPA.
There is also an executive lounge at Level 22 which just opened a few weeks ago and serves afternoon high-tea and evening cocktails for guests at the executive suites and rooms.
There are four different room types published online – the Luxury Room, Junior Suite, Prestige Suite and the Opera Suite. I have stayed in all their three-different types of suites and most recently, the 105 sqm Opera Suite.
The Opera Suites consist of dining area for 4-persons, a living space good for 6 to 8 persons, a separated bedroom with a work desk and a lounge chair, as well as an luxurious bathroom with a freestanding tub and a walk-in closet and vanity. There is also a guest toilet for your friends.
You get a mini-fridge and a capsule-type coffee machine and do feel free to ask for additional capsules during your stay.
The suite is well decorated, with many beautiful pieces of art and decorative pieces. The space is well laid out and I would say ideal for a small dinner or get together with friends or family.
As with all rooms and suites at Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara, the beds are comfortable and comes with two types of pillows for your good night rest. There is a large Smart LED TV in the living area and another in the room with a good selection of cable channels.
Sofitel uses different luxury bath amenities for its suites – the Junior and Prestige Suites get the French Lanvin set while the Opera Suite gets Hermes bath amenities.
Comes evening, they will usually send up a sweet platter to my suite and this time around, we had this plate of macaroons and chocolates
Breakfast at Kwee Zeen is always good, with abundance of choices from Indian, Western, Japanese, Malay and Chinese. There are also good spread of pastries and juices to choose from. Food is tasty and service is always good.
