Layana Resort and Spa ~ the Ultimate Luxury Spa Resort

Perched on the longest stretch of white sandy beach on Koh Lanta Yai sits what I would call the perfect boutique resort. With only 57 guestrooms comprising of Garden Pavilion Rooms, Grand Pavilion Rooms, Terrace Suites, Beach Suites, Ocean Deluxe Villa and the ultimate luxury 2-storey 265 sqm townhouse – the La Maison, the staff of Layana Resort and Spa is there to attend to every single need of every single guest at the resort all the time.

Getting to Koh Lanta is easy .. we drove our KIA Sorento Turbodiesel 2.2 from Krabi and it took us less than 90 minutes to get to Layana Resort and Spa.  The drive is easy and there is a frequent car/passenger ferry that takes you from the pier to Koh Lanta Noi and you can take a short drive across the bridge into Koh Lanta Yai where the resort is nested.

For those arriving via flight into Krabi Airport, we are told that Layana Resort and Spa will arrange an airport pick-up by a private van to its private dock and you will be transferred to the resort by their own speedboat, arriving right on the shores of the resort .. how more amazing can it be ~ making me feel like I should have parked my SUV at the airport.

Upon arrival at the resort, the staff valet parked our SUV and we were escorted to the Sundowner Bar where we were served our welcome drinks and cold towels. The check-in is done while you’re chilling at the bar and is swift. Everything is prepared, just sign and go.

We had two rooms during our stay at the resort, one at the 49 sqm Garden Pavilion and another in the newly renovated 100 sqm+ Ocean Deluxe Villa.

The Garden Pavilions are set in blocks of 4 rooms – two on the upper floor and two on the lower floor and we got the one on the lower floor which opens up to the landscaped lawn that connects both the infinity saltwater pool and toward the beach and the half Olympic-size fitness pool and towards the spa and lobby.

The room are contemporary Thai, with a lot of wooden furnishing. We had the twin bedded room (there are also the king-bed option), and the room comes with a stocked mini bar, a day-bed with lots of throw pillow, a nice terrace that overlooks the well manicured garden and a lovely bathroom with a glass-enclosed standing rain-shower and a sunken tub. You can also open up the bathroom blinds to bring in the sunlight as you soaked in the tub. How wonderful.

The Garden Pavilion are well equipped, strong WIFI, LED TV, bathrooms amenities as well as a all-natural bug spray. The staff will also go around the all the Garden Pavilion and light up mosquito coils during the evening to keep the bugs away.

The newly introduced Ocean Deluxe Villa meanwhile is simply amazing. Its a two story villa, sitting just next to the salt-water infinity pool and steps away from the white sandy beach. The lower level contains a huge bathroom (I bet the bathroom is larger than most hotel rooms and definitely my own master bedroom) with a separate shower stall with a stand-alone Jacuzzi bathtub for two in the middle and it opens up to a small private garden for those who wants a more nature-feel when they are relaxing in the Jacuzzi.

The living area is nicely decorated in modern contemporary ~ with a huge sofa and bigscreen LED TV. It also host a dining table for two with a small kitchenette.

The living area opens up to a large terrace where you can chill or enjoying your drinks while watching the beautiful sunset of Koh Lanta.

The bedroom occupies the upper floor with another bathroom. The bedroom has a 180-degree view of the sea and infinity pool when the lanai shades are opened. The king-size bed at Layana are soft yet firm and they have an extensive choice of pillows for you to choose from for your good night sleep. There is also a day bed in the room, as well as a set of sofa with a large-screen LED TV.

The bathroom is well-designed, with separated shower stall and a large well-lit dual sink vanity. Layana Resort and Spa also provide its guests with branded toiletries from Aromatherapy Associates of the United Kingdom.

After 8 days of travelling on the road from Kuala Lumpur to Dannok to Krabi and Phuket, Layana was the perfect place for us to kick back and relax. The resort is designed perfectly for wellness and relaxation. It is an adult-only resort which has only 57 rooms and villas and they do not accept group bookings, so we  can be rest assure of tranquility when staying over at the resort.

Although our time was short at the resort, we did manage to check out a few of the resort’s facilities. Layana Resort and Spa has two nice swimming pool – one infinity pool with jacuzzi (which I did get to enjoy while my friends were at the spa) and another half-Olympic size wellness-pool which is adjacent to the award winning Linger Longer Spa.

The wellness pool, as well as the infinity pool utilizes saltwater treatment which aids in skin recovery, great for joint pain and has far less irritants compared to the usual chlorinated pools and a swim in these pool will leave you feeling revitalized.

There is a 24 hour fitness center equipped with the latest equipment while yoga sessions are held on Mondays and Wednesdays at the Yoga Platform from 8am to 9am. WOGA (Yoga in the Water) classes are conducted every Friday morning from 8am to 9am while guests are free to utilize the platform at any other time for their own sessions.

Being located on the longest beach, the 3km-long Long Beach on the west-side of Koh Lanta Yai, guests at Layana Resort and Spa are definitely presented with some of the most beautiful sunsets in Thailand.  We definitely did not want to miss out on the sunset here and indeed we got some of the most beautiful sunset shots of the trip here at the infinity pool overlooking the Andaman Sea.

After the shots at poolside, we went down to the soft sandy beach to enjoy the beach as well as the crystal clear water.

Our dinner at Layana Resort and Spa is also one of the most romantic we had throughout the trip. We had a table for two nicely setup right on the beach where guests can request for. The overall setup was amazingly beautiful and incredibly romantic.

We were served the Thai-dinner set which consist of warm bread selection, appetizer set, soup, rice with three dishes, and dessert. Food was great and coupled with the ambiance, I would say dinner cant get any better.

Couples, friends or even if you are a group of four, you can always request for this dinner set, only two setting can be done each evening.

After dinner we got back to the villa and just hung out enjoying the lovely sea breeze before going to bed.

Breakfast are served at The Tide and guests have the options of sitting alfresco beach-side or inside the restaurant. The buffet spread was great with a wide selections of Western and Asian hot items, range of breads and pastries, cook-to-order eggs and waffles stations along with a fresh juice and”healthy shots” bar.

After breakfast, we went around to check out the wellness zone which comprises of the new lap pool, the yoga zone, fitness center, the Linger Longer Spa and the newly opened Healthy Juice Bar where one can enjoy some healthy snacks, freshly squeezed juices or an energy boosting smoothie.

After the exploration time, my friends went for their most deserving spa session at the multi-award winning Linger Longer Spa where they totally enjoyed their rejuvenating Layana Signature Oil Massage sessions.

The Linger Longer Spa has 6 indoor air-conditioned treatment rooms in a idyllic garden setting. There are also an outdoor Jacuzzi, hydro-massage pool, sauna room and a new salt room where fiber-optic lighting provides a special environment for users to breathe in minerals and salt and relax with the various therapeutic salt massage treatments found on the menu.

I am not too much a spa person, so while my crew went for their relaxation session, I got myself some time to dip in the infinity pool, enjoying some splendid relaxing moments in the pool.

It is very unfortunate we only had time for one night at Layana Resort and Spa, I would say it would have been splendid if you can spend at least a 4D3N here to recharge and revitalize oneself.

We came to this resort with high expectations as Layana Resort and Spa had over the years keep winning tons of international awards and a visit to this boutique resort will explain why all the accolades.  I would say this is probably the most perfect luxurious boutique spa resort I have been to so far.  This would definitely be one resort that I would give the exclusive 6-star rating.
