PROTON X50 TURNS SIX: ALL-NEW X50 SPORT EDITION OPENS FOR BOOKINGS

SUBANG JAYA, 8 October 2026 – PROTON is marking six years of the X50 in Malaysia with the introduction of the All-New PROTON X50 Sport Edition (SE), with bookings now open nationwide.

Based on the flagship X50 variant, the Sport Edition adds 15 exclusive exterior and interior enhancements, giving PROTON’s best-selling B-segment SUV a sportier and more distinctive character while retaining its established performance, technology and safety features.

Since its Malaysian introduction on 27 October 2020, the PROTON X50 has recorded more than 177,000 units in cumulative domestic and export sales, making it PROTON’s most successful SUV and Malaysia’s best-selling B-segment SUV for five consecutive years.

According to PROTON Deputy Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Abdul Rashid Musa, the Sport Edition represents the latest stage in the X50’s evolution, responding to changing customer expectations while providing owners with another way to personalise their SUV.

A DARKER, SPORTIER LOOK

The X50 Sport Edition adopts a predominantly black exterior treatment, complemented by red accents to reinforce its sporting character.

Key exterior enhancements include:

  • Black Front Upper Garnish
  • Black Front Side Port Trim Garnish
  • Black Lower Bumper Garnish
  • Black Rear Side Port Trim Garnish
  • Black 18-inch alloy wheels
  • Dedicated front, side and rear skirtings
  • Exclusive Sport Edition emblem

The changes give the X50 a more purposeful stance, while maintaining the familiar design language of the current-generation SUV.

Inside, the Sport Edition continues the black-and-red theme with red stitching on the steering wheel and seats, Sport Edition embroidery on the front seats and Sport Edition detailing on the floor.

The SUV also receives TPE floor mats, designed to be lightweight, flexible and quick-drying — particularly useful for Malaysia’s humid and rainy conditions.

MORE THAN JUST COSMETIC CHANGES

PROTON says the Sport Edition enhancements have been developed with local driving conditions in mind.

The SE components underwent more than 13,700 hours of testing, covering durability, corrosion resistance, UV resistance and suitability for Malaysia’s tropical climate.

This validation process is intended to ensure that the additional styling elements not only enhance the X50’s appearance but can withstand the demands of everyday Malaysian use.

FLAGSHIP PERFORMANCE RETAINED

Underneath the Sport Edition treatment is the X50’s established flagship mechanical package.

Power comes from PROTON’s i-GT 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine, paired with a seven-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT).

The powertrain produces:

181 PS | 290 Nm

The X50 SE can accelerate from 0–100 km/h in 7.6 seconds, while claimed fuel consumption is rated at 6.1 litres/100 km.

The package is complemented by a 14.6-inch infotainment head unit, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, PROTON Link 2.0 and ‘Hi PROTON’ voice command in Bahasa Melayu and English.

Safety equipment continues to include 15 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) features, alongside Auto Park Assist and a 360-degree HD camera with 180-degree Transparent View.

THE KING GETS A SPORTIER ATTITUDE

Six years after its Malaysian debut, the X50 continues to play a significant role in PROTON’s SUV line-up.

With the All-New X50 Sport Edition, PROTON is giving the model a more distinctive visual identity while retaining the performance, technology and safety features that have helped establish its position in Malaysia’s competitive B-SUV segment.

Bookings for the All-New PROTON X50 Sport Edition are now open at authorised PROTON dealers nationwide.
