Viper Niza Fights Back to P4 at Spa, Climbs to Joint Championship Lead

SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS, BELGIUM — Malaysia’s Viper Niza Racing Team delivered another gritty endurance performance at the legendary Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, securing 4th in the GT3-AM class and 7th overall at Round 2 of the Michelin 24H Series.

The result may have just missed the podium, but it carries major championship weight — vaulting Viper Niza into joint 1st place overall in the GT3-AM standings alongside Hofor Racing and HAAS RT, all tied at 56 points with three rounds remaining.

From P15 to the Sharp End

Starting 15th overall and 9th in class, the Malaysian outfit executed a composed and calculated race across the split 12-hour format.

Dominic Ang opened the charge, slicing through the field to bring the team up to 5th in class within the first hour. By the end of Race 1, the trio had climbed to 8th overall and 4th in class — well within striking distance.

In Race 2, the momentum continued. Viper Niza surged as high as 6th overall before eventually sealing 7th overall after 239 laps — just two laps shy of a podium finish in class.

Holding Their Own Against the Big Guns

Competing against a 40-car grid dominated by McLaren, Audi and Porsche machinery, Viper Niza stood out as the third-highest finisher in the overall top 10 driving the Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO.

Their fastest lap of 2:17.985 placed them within touching distance of the frontrunners — less than two seconds off the overall-winning McLaren 720S GT3 EVO from Optimum Motorsport, and around a second off the class-winning Audi R8 LMS GT3 EVO II of HAAS RT.

Khoo: “Every Point Matters”

Team Principal and lead driver Douglas Khoo reflected on the result:

“A third successive podium eluded us, but Spa remains one of our strongest circuits. We had a clean race and solid pit stops. A bit of bad luck with the final Code 60 cost us track position — but with the level of competition this year, we’re happy to take the points. With three rounds to go, every point matters.”

Championship Momentum Builds

While the Spa podium streak ends, the bigger picture looks strong. Viper Niza now sits:

  • Joint 1st — GT3-AM Overall Standings
  • Tied 5th — Overall GT3 Standings (just 10 points off the lead)

With three rounds remaining in the season, the title fight is wide open — and Viper Niza is firmly in the mix.
