Sime Motors Elevates Northern EV Presence with Launch of BYD Mansion Macalister in Penang

The electric mobility landscape in northern Malaysia received another major boost as Sime Motors and BYD Malaysia officially unveiled the new BYD Mansion Macalister — a heritage-inspired flagship showroom that blends Penang’s rich cultural identity with the future of electric mobility.

Located in the heart of George Town, the restored heritage property marks another milestone in BYD’s rapidly expanding Malaysian footprint. The launch ceremony was officiated by Chow Kon Yeow alongside H’ng Mooi Lye, while also celebrating the milestone of 5,000 BYD owners in Malaysia’s northern region.

The new flagship facility is more than just a showroom. Designed as an immersive EV lifestyle destination, BYD Mansion Macalister integrates personalised consultation lounges, digital touchpoints, customer-centric spaces, an integrated service centre, and EV charging facilities — all within a restored architectural landmark that pays tribute to Penang’s heritage charm.

According to Liu Xueliang, Malaysia remains a strategically important market in BYD’s global electrification plans. He highlighted the company’s continued investments in advanced EV technologies, local talent development, and bringing the latest innovations into the Malaysian market as part of its long-term commitment toward sustainable mobility.

Meanwhile, Jeffrey Gan emphasised that Sime Motors’ focus extends beyond vehicle sales, centring heavily on ownership confidence and customer support. With over 43 showrooms and more than 25 dedicated aftersales centres nationwide, the company is actively strengthening EV ownership accessibility across Malaysia.

The launch also underlined the importance of aftersales readiness in accelerating EV adoption. Backed by a 95 percent aftersales parts fill rate and ongoing certification programmes for technicians and service advisors, BYD Sime Motors aims to provide customers with faster service turnaround and stronger peace of mind throughout the ownership journey.

In conjunction with the opening, BYD Sime Motors also organised a special media road trip from Ara Damansara to Penang, covering approximately 360 kilometres using a range of BYD electric vehicles. The drive showcased the brand’s long-distance touring capability, comfort, charging confidence, and real-world usability across Malaysian highways and scenic routes.

As Malaysia’s EV ecosystem continues to mature, the opening of BYD Mansion Macalister signals another step forward in making premium electric mobility more accessible beyond the Klang Valley — while giving Penang its own distinctive EV destination infused with local character and modern innovation.
