SUBANG JAYA – PROTON has officially revealed the name and first details of its upcoming updated sedan, the 2027 PROTON S70 RS, introducing a bolder sporting identity for its popular model as the national carmaker prepares for its official launch.
The RS moniker, which stands for Refined Sportiness, reflects PROTON’s intention to build on the S70’s established sporty DNA with a more assertive exterior, a refreshed driver-focused cabin and performance-oriented refinements. Guided by the theme “Performance with Style”, the updated model aims to strengthen the S70’s appeal among buyers looking for a balance of everyday practicality and sporting character.
Sharper Styling, Stronger Road Presence
The 2027 PROTON S70 RS adopts a more purposeful design direction, with sharper detailing, contrasting accents and revised body elements giving the sedan a more assertive appearance.
At the front, a redesigned grille and bumper introduce a distinctive new look, complemented by intricate detailing and red accents. The sporty treatment continues along the sides with redesigned skirts and 17-inch alloy wheels paired with red brake calipers.
At the rear, a redesigned bumper, diffuser and quad exhaust-tip finishers further reinforce its sportier character, creating a more cohesive exterior package.
Inside, the refreshed cabin carries the same sporting theme through a dual-tone interior with red accents. A floating centre console and ambient lighting add a contemporary touch, while the Commander Dial and Automatic Column Shifter introduce a revised approach to cabin ergonomics and convenience.
The overall interior design places greater emphasis on creating a driver-focused environment while retaining the practicality expected of a daily-use sedan.
Turbocharged Performance Continues
Under the bonnet, the 2027 PROTON S70 RS retains the i-GT 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, paired with a 7-speed Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT).
The powertrain delivers a claimed 0–100 km/h acceleration time of 7.5 seconds, carrying forward the performance credentials that have helped establish the S70 as PROTON’s Sporty Sedan.
While the latest update introduces a stronger visual identity and refreshed cabin experience, the existing turbocharged powertrain remains central to the model’s sporting proposition.
S70 Continues to Lead Sedan Sales
The announcement comes as the S70 continues to perform strongly in Malaysia’s sedan market, maintaining its position at the top of both the B-segment and C-segment sedan categories.
In October 2026, the newly introduced S70 i-GT 1.5 Lite and Prime variants recorded 2,338 units, leading the B-segment sedan category. Meanwhile, the more powerful S70 variants maintained their leadership in the C-segment with 3,029 units.
Combined, the S70 range achieved 5,367 units for October, bringing its year-to-date sales for the first 10 months of 2026 to 26,076 units.
According to Dato’ Ir. Abdul Rashid Musa, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of PROTON, the S70 RS represents the next stage in the model’s development, bringing together purposeful design, turbocharged performance and a sportier cabin while retaining the everyday usability valued by customers.
Automotive Meets Fashion in Upcoming Showcase
To further express its “Performance with Style” theme, PROTON will collaborate with a renowned local fashion designer for a special showcase on 10 November 2026 at 8:00 PM.
The event will combine the 2027 PROTON S70 RS line-off reveal with an industrial-inspired runway presentation, bringing automotive design and contemporary fashion together to highlight the sedan’s sporting character.
