SEPANG – Motorists heading to the PETRONAS Grand Prix of Malaysia 2026 can expect a less restrictive traffic management plan around the Sepang International Circuit (SIC), with police confirming that no road closures or auxiliary checkpoints will be introduced on routes leading to the circuit during the race weekend from 30 October to 1 November.
The arrangements mark a departure from the more restrictive traffic measures implemented during the recent Formula 1 event earlier this month, offering spectators a potentially smoother journey to one of Malaysia’s biggest annual motorsport attractions.
A total of 649 police officers and personnel will be deployed throughout the three-day event to manage traffic flow, maintain road safety and assist the expected influx of spectators.
Contra-flow lane for emergency and VVIP movements
A contra-flow lane will be activated from 6.00am on Saturday, 31 October, and Sunday, 1 November to facilitate police-escorted VVIP convoys and emergency vehicles, including ambulances and fire engines.
Motorists are advised to remain alert to traffic directions and comply with instructions from on-duty police personnel throughout the weekend.
Circuit parking on a first-come, first-served basis
Parking inside the SIC compound will be available to cars and motorcycles on a first-come, first-served basis. Once the available spaces within the circuit grounds are filled, incoming vehicles will be directed to designated outer parking areas.
With significant spectator numbers expected, early arrival is recommended, particularly on Sunday, when the main race-day crowds are anticipated.
Up to 80,000 spectators expected on race day
Attendance projections indicate approximately 40,000 spectators on Friday, 30 October, followed by an estimated 60,000 to 80,000 spectators daily on Saturday and Sunday.
The anticipated turnout reinforces the importance of effective traffic management and cooperation between road users and enforcement personnel to minimise congestion around the circuit.
Advice for spectators
Visitors are encouraged to plan their journeys in advance and arrive well before their preferred track sessions. Allow additional time for parking, walking from outer parking areas and completing security checks within the venue.
Motorists should park only in officially designated areas and follow all instructions issued by traffic personnel to help maintain a steady flow of vehicles.
For the latest venue information, circuit maps and spectator guidance, visitors should consult the official Sepang International Circuit Guide before travelling.
With no planned road closures on routes leading to the circuit, the 2026 MotoGP Malaysia weekend is expected to offer a more straightforward approach for fans travelling to Sepang. Nevertheless, given the projected race-day crowds, preparation and patience will remain essential for a smooth journey.
