During my recent getaway to Malaysia’s stunning east coast, I had the incredible opportunity to experience three days and two nights at the magnificent Westin Desaru Coast Resort. This integrated beach resort promises the perfect blend of luxury accommodation, family-friendly activities, and pristine beachfront location. But does it deliver on creating that ultimate coastal escape? Join me as we take you through every moment of my unforgettable stay.
Upon arrival at the Westin Desaru Coast, we were immediately struck by the resort’s impressive lobby – a soaring space that perfectly captures the essence of coastal luxury with its contemporary design and natural elements. The architecture creates this wonderful sense of arrival, making you feel like you’ve stepped into a tropical paradise.Our check-in procedure was refreshingly easy and efficient. The staff welcomed us with genuine warmth and had us settled within minutes.
We were thrilled to learn we’d been assigned a Deluxe King Seaview Room – and let me tell you, that sea view would prove to be absolutely spectacular throughout my stay. As I stepped in, the bathroom was on my left, luxurious finishing with a stand alone bathtub, a standing shower stall with a nice built in bench, complete set of toiletries were from Westin Spa and as you continue into the room, you will come to the spacious well-lit sleeping are with floor to ceiling windows framing breathtaking views of the South China Sea.
The room is elegantly appointed, featuring their signature king size heavenly bed that provided me with the most restful sleep.There is a privacy screen between the bath and the bedroom, a work desk with international power plug points and a balcony that overlook the ocean.The room comes with all the modern amenities you’d expect from a Westin property, including premium bedding, plush bathrobes, complimentary coffee and tea making facilities with plenty of drinking water and thoughtful touches like that lavendar oil that make you feel truly pampered.
After settling into my beautiful room, i couldn’t wait to explore this expansive resort. Our first stop was their Grab and Go outlet – perfect for picking up snacks, drinks, and essentials without having to leave the property.
One of the highlights of our exploration was walking the Belukar Trail, which led me to the amazing Belukar playground. This isn’t just any ordinary playground – it’s a wonderland for children with creative play structures that blend seamlessly with the natural environment. Even as adult, I found myself fascinated by the thoughtful design.
The BoomGrow Container farm was an unexpected delight. This innovative hydroponic farming system showcases the resort’s commitment to sustainability while providing fresh produce for their restaurants. It’s educational, environmentally conscious, and absolutely fascinating to see in action.
The Kids Club is phenomenally well-designed, offering supervised activities and entertainment that would keep children engaged for hours. Even though i don’t have children, I could immediately see how this would be a paradise for families.
And then there’s the infinity pool – absolutely breathtaking! This stunning pool seems to merge seamlessly with the horizon, creating the most Instagram-worthy backdrop you could imagine. The pool area is beautifully landscaped and offers the perfect spot for relaxation with those incredible sea views.
For my first dinner, I chose Preggo, the resort’s Italian restaurant, and what a fantastic choice it was. I started with their Croccanti – a delightfully crispy appetizer that perfectly whetted my appetite for what was to come.
The main course was the meatball linguine, and it was absolutely divine. The pasta was cooked to perfection, the meatballs were tender and flavorful, and the sauce had that authentic Italian taste that transported me straight to a Roman trattoria. The portion was generous, perfect for sharing, which I love to do when traveling.
I couldn’t resist ending our meal with their Tiramisu, and it was the perfect finale to our dining experience. Creamy, rich, and with just the right balance of coffee and sweetness – it was restaurant-quality dessert that left me completely satisfied.
The next morning, I woke up early to make the most of my time at this incredible resort. Our first stop was the Westin Workout Fitness Studio, which is impressively equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. The facility is spacious, well-maintained, and offers everything you need to maintain your fitness routine while on vacation.
Breakfast at Seasonal Tastes was nothing short of spectacular. This all-day dining restaurant offers one of the most comprehensive breakfast buffets we’ve ever experienced. The spread is absolutely incredible, catering to every palate and dietary preference.We were delighted to find authentic nasi lemak bungkus – perfectly wrapped traditional Malaysian breakfast that was both authentic and delicious. The bread and pastries section was impressive, featuring freshly baked items that were still warm from the oven.The cold cuts and cheese selection offered international quality, while the Chinese dim sum section provided authentic flavors with expertly prepared dumplings and buns. The Indian selections were aromatic and flavorful, offering a wonderful variety of traditional dishes.What really impressed me was the fresh fruit juices – clearly made from local tropical fruits – and the expertly brewed coffee and tea selection. The quality and variety ensured that every morning started perfectly, no matter what your preferences might be.
Before heading out for my adventure, I dropped by the Heavenly Spa by Westin. This tranquil sanctuary offers a perfect escape from the world, with professional therapists and a serene environment that embodies the Westin brand’s commitment to well-being.
My excursion to Desaru Fruit Farm was absolutely thrilling. The ATV tour gave us an adrenaline rush while exploring the expansive farm grounds. The terrain was challenging enough to be exciting but safe enough for beginners – perfect for anyone looking for an adventure.The petting zoo was charming and well-maintained, offering close encounters with friendly farm animals such as alpacas, capybara, rabbits, pony, foxes, raccoons, monkeys and cats. But the real highlight was the personalized jeep tour of the farm and their mini zoo. Seeing camels and exotic albino buffaloes in Malaysia was completely unexpected and fascinating. The variety of large bird species was impressive, and our guide was knowledgeable and passionate about the conservation efforts.
Returning to the resort, I had my lunch at Kedidi, and the experience was outstanding. Their golden seafood soup was a revelation – rich, flavorful, and filled with fresh seafood that showcased the best of coastal Malaysian cuisine.The grilled seabass with sambal was perfectly executed. The fish was fresh and flaky, while the sambal provided that authentic Malaysian heat and complexity of flavors. It’s exactly the kind of local cuisine we love to discover when traveling.
The resort’s private beach is absolutely pristine. The soft sand, clear water, and comfortable loungers create the perfect beach experience. The beach bar provides convenient refreshments without having to leave this slice of paradise while the Dash Outdoor Watersport kiosk, offers various water activities for those seeking more adventure. The setup is professional and safety-conscious, perfect for guests wanting to explore the beautiful waters of the South China Sea.
The Coral Lounge is a brilliant addition for families with teenagers. The table games and PS5 setup provide entertainment for older children who might find typical kids’ activities too young for them. It’s this attention to different age groups that makes Westin Desaru Coast truly family-friendly.
My second dinner at Seasonal Tastes’ international buffet was even more impressive than breakfast. The evening spread showcased incredible variety with amazing treats from Indian, Chinese, International, and Japanese sections. Each cuisine was authentically prepared and beautifully presented.The Indian section offered aromatic curries and freshly made breads, while the Chinese selection featured expertly prepared dishes with authentic flavors. The international section catered to every palate, and the Japanese section provided fresh, high-quality options including sushi and sashimi.
Mix Lounge came alive in the evening with live music on weekends, creating a sophisticated atmosphere perfect for cocktails and conversation. The entertainment was tasteful and added to the resort’s vibrant evening ambiance.
The movie night at the beach bar was a magical experience – watching films under the stars with the sound of waves in the background created memories we’ll treasure forever.
Our final morning began with exploration of the Muara Lagoon pool – another stunning water feature that showcases the resort’s commitment to providing diverse aquatic experiences. This pool offers a different ambiance from the infinity pool, perfect for those seeking a more secluded swimming experience.
Check-out at 11am was smooth and efficient, but we weren’t quite ready to leave. The Afternoon Tea set at Mix Lounge provided the perfect farewell to our stay. The selection of teas, delicate sandwiches, and sweet treats offered a refined ending to our coastal adventure.
After three incredible days at Westin Desaru Coast Resort, we can confidently say this property delivers on every promise. The combination of luxurious accommodation, diverse dining options, family-friendly activities, and stunning natural beauty creates an experience that caters to every type of traveler.
