I was travelling for business to Sungai Petani recently and was recommended to this lovely boutique hotel at the riverfront by a colleague called Big Banana Hotel.
The location of the hotel is quite central in town and is surrounded by retail outlets (although some have yet to open) and food outlets. Parking is plentiful surrounding the hotel and they also do have secured sheltered parking if you are not the type that likes to park curbside right in front of its main entrance.
The hotel has three floors with a rooftop that over-looks the serene river. Each of the two floors have living space where you can read a book (there are plenty of books at the hotel for your reading pleasure) as well as a pantry where you can make your drinks 24/7.
As for the room, I got their standard twin sharing room which comes with two beds and a small bathroom but I like their simple room design which reminds me of many of the small boutique hotels that I have stayed in the past in Thailand. The rooms are designed with concrete finished wall along with natural wood accents and furniture and good indirect lightings that makes the room feel chic and modern. The hotel do have 10 different room types including those that fits up to three people comfortably.
Most importantly the beds and pillows are comfortable for a good night rest and although the room rates are from below RM 80 per night, it comes with complete amenities such as bottled drinking water and toiletries. The room also comes with a universal power plug which I felt every hotel these days should provide.
In the morning, you do get complimentary breakfast at the dining hall behind the check in counter where simple buffet breakfast such as packed nasi lemak, fried rice noodles, sausages, fried eggs, cereal and toast with condiments are available for everyone.
Other facilities that you find at this hotel includes free PC usage on-site and there is also a kids play corner if you are travelling with kids for leisure.
Only draw back of the hotel that I could think of would be the sound-proofing of the place as you do hear the sound of cars driving by but then I was too tired that I fell asleep quite early.
