I am sure many of you out there have been missing the buffet scene since the start of MCO in March, but fret not, Iconic Hotel in Juru has launched their all-new Chiak All You Can Buffet on every Friday and Saturday evening.
I tried out the Chiak All You Can Buffet last weekend and it was good – maybe can even say better than the usual buffet because many of the items are cook-to-order rather than the usual buffet where it is cooked in bulk and served in heated trays on the buffet line.
So what will you expect to find in the Chiak All You Can Buffet at Iconic Hotel? For soup, we had options of three classics which include the double-boiled black chicken herbal, braised seafood soup with four treasures and the double boiled mushroom with dried scallop. My favorite I believe is also the favorite among many, which is the double-boiled black chicken herbal soup and is kinda Iconic Hotel’s signature soup and its simply amazing.
There are also three selections of salad, but I am definitely not a fan of salad, so I gave this station a pass.
For appetizers, we have the selection of seafood on ice – unlimited flower crabs, mussels, scallops, shrimps and etc, followed by a good selection of Japanese appetizers such as the Chuka Wakame, Tamago Yaki, Edamame, Chuka Idako, Chuka Kurage, Chuka Hotate and Asari. There is also an assortment of sashimis to kick off your dinner. Personally I am not a big fan of sashimi but the seafood on ice is fresh and nice and I love a few of those Japanese appetizers.
Their Japanese selection continues into the tempura station where you find items like soft shell crabs, prawns, squid, and sweet potatoes and the grilled selection consists of items like Saba Teri, Sake Teri, Eringi Teri, Yakitori and Shishamo. I would say this is probably one of my favorite stations – I love Tempuras and the grilled items especially the Sake Teri.
For meat lovers, you will get a selection of nice juicy roasted meat – from the ayam perciks to roasted ducks and kambing bakar to the chicken charsiew. My personal favorite, the kambing bakar and the chicken charsiew – you’ve gotta try these very well marinated meat and roasted perfectly.
Hot from the wok, you will find a wide selection of carbs including items like the delicious Squid Ink Shrimp Aglio and the Smoked Duck Salted Egg Carbonara to the Petai Fried Rice and Japanese Unagi Garlic Fried Rice we had. They also had the Taiwanese Braised Minced Chicken Rice.
Also cook to order and delivered pipping hot to your table would be items like the Curry Salmon Fish Head and Braised Beef Brisket with White Radish, Herbal Salt Baked Chicken and Roasted Duck, Wok Fried Mussels with Black Bean Sauce, Thai Mango Fish Fillet and the Sambal Seafood Petai. Other fan favorites includes the Wok Fried Black Pepper Beef with celery, Wok Fried Prawns with Cereal, Oyster Omelette and Braised Fish Fillet with Sweet Basil.
What’s my favorite from the cook to order section? I would say my #1 favorite would be the Curry Salmon Fish Head followed by the Braised Beef Brisket, Thai Mango Fish Fillet, Wok Fried Prawns with Cereal, Braised Fish Fillet with Sweet Basil and Oyster Omelette. I would say do try these few items at least if you are there, bet you wont regret it.
All diners at the Chiak All You Can Buffet also receive a “signature dish” (non refillable) where we had the “Monk Jump Over The Wall”.
For dessert, you have choices of Petit Four, our Penang’s Signature Merry-Me ice-cream, an Asian TongSui, seasonal fruits platter and Iconic’s signature Bubur Durian.
Overall, I would say the buffet is great, a little different from how we used to have our buffet, but I think this way, food are fresher but some of the item portion is slightly too much. However overall, three of us still had almost everything on their menu and totally enjoyed the meal.
