The popular Feng Wang Fu or FWF authentic Chengdu hotpot has recently opened up its third outlet in the Klang Valley in 1Utama Shopping Center in Damansara.
First thing about any of the Feng Wang Fu is the decor and design of their outlet are very elaborate, like you are dining in some ancient Chinese palace, with grand entrances and elaborate decors.
We had a chance to try out their popular hotpot in their latest outlet recently and totally fell in love with it. As a first timer, we went for the three-soup option (just because we wanted to try as much as we can) with their Signature Spicy Mala Soup, Vitamin C Tomato Soup and their Chinese Herbal Mushroom Soup. I wished they had a four soup option so we can try their Beauty Collagen Bone Soup but they don’t .. so maybe next round of dining there.
All the three soups we chose were delicious, the Chinese Herbal Mushroom Soup is hearty and rich and is suitable for seafood, meat as well as vegetables as it does not overwhelm the taste of the food. My personal favorite is the Vitamin C Tomato Soup which is quite thick and pack a punch unlike some of the Tomato Soup in other hotpot places.
The most in demand soup at any FWF is definitely the Signature Spicy Mala Soup, which looks angry but poses nothing more than a mild heat if you make good use of the white bread (which was provided to all) and their special sesame dipping sauce (I heard their sesame seed oil is specially airflown in from Chengdu).
With the soup selected, we pick our mains .. we went with a few of their recommended items such as the Handmade Bamboo Shrimp Paste, Snowflake Beef Slice, Iberico Pork Belly, Sliced Toman Fish, Fish Roe Lucky Bag, Bamboo Clam, Handmade Noodles, Vegetable Platter and Chinese Cabbage. We also ordered their Fried Glutinous Riceball which was unique and nice.
So what’s my favorite? I would say the Handmade Bamboo Shrimp Paste which tasted a bit like hargow in a soup and much better and the Iberico Pork Belly and Snowflake Beef Slice are also superby wonderful. The Fish Roe Lucky Bag is nice too as well as their Fried Glutionous Riceball.
After a wholesome meal, we are served with a pomelo slush which is so so refreshing.
Is this place worth a visit? I would definitely say yes and its definitely my favorite hotpot place so far. They have four outlets now – with outlets in Fahrenheit88 in Jalan Bukit Bintang, Bukit Tinggi in Klang and their latest outlet in 1Utama Shopping Mall. They also have an outlet in Gurney Paragon Mall in Penang.
For those who would like to dine in the comfort of their own homes, Feng Wang Fu Hotpot does home deliveries too.
Do give them a try and comment below what you think about it.
