Courtyard by Marriott makes it Malaysian debut recently by opening the first 199-room Courtyard on the bustling Jalan Macalister in the heart of Penang’s UNESCO-listed George Town. The new hotel is set to provide the best hotel experience for guests to pursue their personal and professional passions while on the road.
“We are thrilled to continue to grow our presence in Malaysia with the opening of Courtyard by Marriott Penang,” said Rajeev Menon, President, Asia Pacific (excluding China), Marriott International. “Designed for today’s ambitious and enterprising traveler, the opening of Courtyard by Marriott Penang marks Marriott International’s 17th brand in Malaysia and further compliments our growing footprint in the country.”
Situated at the RM334.7 million Tropicana 218 Macalister luxury high-rise project in Georgetown, the hotel boasts unobstructed views of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as the Straits of Malacca. Each guest room is fitted with thoughtful amenities and comes with high technology equipment and an ergonomic work area, ideal for business or leisure travelers.
Penang Kitchen is the hotel’s lively and chic all-day dining restaurant, featuring a medley of mouthwatering creations inspired by the unique blend of local cultures – Malay, Nyonya, Chinese and Indian as well as international fares. The Gin Library is slated to open in the last quarter of 2020, will be the island’s first and only distillery-themed bar. The Anglo-Indian style will carry design inspired by the island’s unique heritage and style, featuring an eclectic mix of contemporary furniture with local elements and warm timber tones. True to the British colonial days, Gin Library will be serving a collection of gin and malt whiskey spirits and hand-crafted cocktails.
Other facilities at the hotel include a 24-hour fitness center, an outdoor infinity pool overlooking Penang Hill, a pillarless ballroom that accommodates up to 150 guests, eight meeting rooms and one VIP room.
According to the Tropicana Berhad, the launch of the hotel aims to further energize the tourism industry and increase employment opportunities to boost the local economy.
“We recognize that this is a challenging time for hotel operators, however, with the support and swift action from both the state and federal governments in controlling and combating Covid-19, we are optimistic that the local tourism scene is slowly but steadily recovering, even as our international borders remain closed,” Dion Tan, Tropicana Group Managing Director said.
“I am excited to welcome guests to the new Courtyard by Marriott Penang,” said Subash Basrur, General Manager. “There is a lot of anticipation for the launch of the Courtyard by Marriott brand in Malaysia and we are committed to delivering a welcoming experience that inspires and re-energizes guests at an affordable price point. As a beloved destination for business and leisure travelers, we look forward to welcoming both domestic and international guests to experience our inviting hospitality and uplifting spaces.”
