Tourist to Penang should be very familiar with the multitudes of wall mural scattered all over Georgetown, many of which are considered main attractions of Penang like the Boy on the Bicycle or the Boy and Girl on the Swing but do you know that there are also a lot of wall murals across the Straits in Butterworth?

Located on a back alley of shop houses on Jalan Bagan Luar lies a few alleys known as Butterworth ArtWalk. There are some good 20 plus murals depicting the life of people in Province Wellesley or Butterworth.

These nicely done up work are from various local artistes are to focus to educate visitors about mainland’s colorful past, from its agricultural economy to the history of elephant export, buses that I used to take when I was going to school to the life of the local fishermen.

If you are in that area, I would recommend that you drop by for a visit – and its a lot easier to find all of them as the murals are closed-by each other and not scattered around like what you find on the island.
