Dunlop Enters New Era in Malaysia Under Toyotsu Binter, Accelerates EV Strategy at Malaysia Autoshow 2026

PENANG — Dunlop has officially embarked on a new chapter in Malaysia, with Toyotsu Binter Malaysia Sdn Bhd (TBM) stepping in as the brand’s exclusive distributor and unveiling a renewed market direction at the Malaysia Autoshow 2026.

The transition marks a strategic reset—one that strengthens nationwide accessibility, deepens dealer engagement, and introduces a refreshed product lineup aligned with both conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and the rapidly growing electric vehicle (EV) segment.

A familiar name in Malaysia since the 1960s, Dunlop is now pairing its legacy with a more globally aligned strategy under TBM, supported by regional expertise across ASEAN and its integration within the wider network of Toyota Tsusho Corporation, alongside close collaboration with Sumitomo Rubber Industries.

EV-Ready Tyres Drive the Next Phase

Taking centre stage at the showcase was the Blue Response TG, a next-generation passenger tyre engineered to meet the evolving demands of electrified mobility. Designed for enhanced ride comfort, improved handling stability, lower rolling resistance, and reduced cabin noise, it reflects the shifting expectations of modern drivers—especially in EVs where instant torque, added weight, and quieter cabins amplify tyre performance requirements.

Dunlop’s EV-ready portfolio is already expanding, with models such as the Sport Maxx Lux, Blue Response TG, SP Sport Maxx 060+, and e.Sport Maxx positioned to meet these new demands.

The upcoming introduction of the e.Sport Maxx in Malaysia is expected to further strengthen this offering, combining improved rolling resistance efficiency with strong wet and dry grip, alongside enhanced cabin quietness supported by Silent Core Technology.

OEM Expansion Signals Strong Industry Confidence

Beyond the replacement market, TBM is actively strengthening Dunlop’s footprint within the original equipment (OEM) segment—an important pillar in building long-term brand presence.

Dunlop tyres are now fitted as original equipment on selected models from Toyota, Lexus, Isuzu, Mazda and Leapmotor, including fully electric models such as the Toyota bZ4X—highlighting Dunlop’s presence across both conventional and electrified platforms.

Speaking at the event, Takehiko Asai, Managing Director of Sumitomo Rubber Industries ASEAN, emphasised the importance of these partnerships:

“Dunlop’s engineering capabilities continue to support its partnerships with global vehicle manufacturers, and our OEM relationships reflect the confidence automakers place in Dunlop’s performance and reliability. This provides a strong foundation as we continue introducing products designed to meet evolving mobility needs in Malaysia and across Southeast Asia.”

Riding Malaysia’s EV Growth Curve

Malaysia’s EV transition is gaining momentum, with electric vehicles now accounting for approximately one in every 14 newly registered vehicles. The government is targeting electrified vehicles to make up 15% of total industry volume by 2030, supported by ongoing expansion of national charging infrastructure.

In response, Dunlop is scaling up tyres engineered specifically for EV characteristics—addressing higher vehicle weight, immediate torque delivery, and the need for quieter cabin environments.

Stronger Network, Premium Positioning

TBM is currently working with a network of more than 190 authorised wholesalers, trade partners, and direct Dunlop dealers nationwide, primarily across Peninsular Malaysia, with further expansion planned over the next two years. The company is also exploring specialised Dunlop retail concepts as part of its long-term network strategy.

According to TBM Managing Director Marcus Lim, the transition represents a long-term commitment to elevating the brand:

“This marks the beginning of a new chapter for Dunlop in Malaysia. Our focus is on strengthening supply consistency, expanding dealer reach and ensuring Malaysian motorists benefit from Dunlop’s latest global tyre technologies, including products developed to support the shift towards electrified mobility.”

A Strategic Reset for the Future

With a strengthened distribution network, growing OEM presence, and an expanding EV-ready product lineup, Dunlop’s refreshed showcase at Malaysia Autoshow 2026 signals a clear intent—to position itself as a premium performance tyre brand that blends advanced Japanese engineering with accessibility for Malaysian motorists.

As the market evolves, Dunlop’s next chapter in Malaysia is no longer just about legacy—it’s about staying ahead of the curve.
