I made a trip up to Penang recently and decided to check out the Grand Orient Hotel in Prai. The Grand Orient Hotel is not a very big hotel but its is the only hotel with a water theme park in Penang. It is an ideal stay for family with children (surely they will love the kids pool) as well as an ideal hotel for business travelers especially those visiting clients in Prai or the industrial estates around the area.
The hotel is conveniently located off one of the main road in Prai and accessibility is convenient. However what attracted me to this hotel is their new SAN-Air room which is a room which is 24/7 sanitized and has that international Purple Tick accreditation which are given to establishments that has taken proactive measure to ensure the quality of their indoor air quality (IAQ).
SAN-Air is an Australian air purification products which is made with 100% natural actives that are lab tested and proven to be effective against the airborne CoronaVirus that we are now all familiar with now. Having installed the SAN-Air products in their room, it just gives me that extra relieve that my health is well taken care off by the management of the hotel. This is above the requirements set by the government to have their room sanitized upon check-out, facemask requirements, frequent cleaning and sanitization, social distancing, hand-sanitizer, temperature check and contact tracing upon arrival and etc.
I got the Deluxe Room at the hotel, good size, I would assume just about 18 sqm with separate rainforest shower stall, comfortable KingCoil bed, large 40″ LED TV with Astro channels and a small work desk. WIFI is provided and is fast and its nice to see a powerpoint placed on top of the bed-head for the convenience of charging your phone at night.
The hotel also has a small conference facility and a large fully equipped gym and sauna for men and women. There is also a cafe at the lobby area but unfortunately with the pandemic, the cafe is not operating at the current moment.
The main highlight of the hotel of course is the Laguna Water Theme Park which is now open and available for hotel guests. Its not a huge water park but I would say it is probably one of the largest swimming pool facilities with multiple water slides, lazy river and waterfalls for any hotel in Penang.
Parking is right in front of the hotel and more than sufficient during my visit.
Anyway, I enjoyed my trip to Penang and my stay with Grand Orient Hotel, although I wished I got more time to enjoy their amazing swimming facilities.
So if you are going to make a trip up to Penang once the domestic tourism has opened up, do consider staying over here at Grand Orient if you are looking to enjoy some downtime at the pool with the kids and don’t forget to ask for the SAN-Air Rooms.
