Cor Blimey ~ the place to go for excellent serving of authentic British-style Fish and Chips and more

I have walked by Cor Blimey in Sri Hartamas quite a few times, and each time I would think to myself, this is one place I’ve gotta go in for a try and I finally did a couple weeks ago with a few friends of mine.

Known for their authentic British-style Fish and Chips, we decided to go for that plus a whole lot more, haha .. look at what we finally ordered !!!

The place setup is such of a simple setting which I am perfectly fine with (I guess the more a restaurant spend on setting up the place, the costlier your meal will be and I am normally they guy who values the food much more than the ambiance). Small British-theme decor, and good table spacing to comply with the current Covid-19 SOP does perfect for me.

Service is pretty good – since we have already made our bookings, the staff were already expecting us and welcomed us with a smile. They had a table setup for us but we wanted to change and they were very accommodating. We didn’t have to wait too long for our food and its always service with a smile.

Beverage-wise, they do have a few options, but we went straight for their refreshing homemade English hand-squeezed lemonades. I went for their original while my friends went for the three other natural fruits infused, namely the cranberry, mint and raspberry. The lemonades are indeed refreshing and an appetite enhancing drink.

For starters, we pick up the Ocean Catch Seafood Board which consisted of a selection of seafood bites – such as calamari rings, firecrackers shrimp scampi, curry perch popcorn (wow this is superb – cant get enough of this), fish fingers, fish cakes and mussels in batter as well as the Mini Fisherman Seafood Pie which too is a delightful starter where you find a medley of seafood baked in a creamy sauce and then topped with a heap of delicious mashed potato.

Moving to the main, we ordered the star of the restaurant, the Family Feast which comes with 4 types of fish deep fried in different flavor of batter, with generous serving of sides and dipping sauce. My favorite from the platter was the flavorful English curry batter as well as the original traditional batter which is more subtle as it brings out the flavor of the fish and you can taste the freshness of the fish. The onion and garlic batter is not too bad too for those who likes a stronger taste on their batter.

For the sides, I was a little hesitant on the minted mushy peas because I am not much a vegetable person but surprisingly it is very tasty and refreshing. I can say I like it quite well (you wont hear me saying this about vegetables much at all). I would say its definitely one of the best fish and chips I have tried so far in town.

Apart from this big platter, we also had the Signature Atlantic Cod Fish and Chips which is one of the best selling item at the restaurant, a Pan-seared Pacific Halibut with Sauteed Mushroom, Beef Banger and Mash, Chicken and Mushroom Pie with Parsley Liquor Sauce and the Steak and Kidney Pie with Onion Gravy.

What’s my favorite? I would say the Pan-seared Pacific Halibut with Sauteed Mushroom was the stand-out, the Signature Atlantic Cod is also fabulous while the Beef Banger and Mash was my non-seafood favorite. The beef sausages has a very lovely taste to it as well as a very nice texture and it goes perfectly with the mash potatoes.

The pies were pretty good too but I think by the time I got to the pies, I was already a little stuffed. The pie pastry were buttery and flaky while the fillings were generous and tasty.

For dessert we went with their signature – deep fried Mars bar chocolate with vanilla ice-cream and the apple and berry crumble. Oh my favorite is definitely their unique deep fried Mars bar chocolate with vanilla ice-cream .. oh it is so so good. I believe even if you are not a fish and chips fan, this deep fried Mars bar chocolate with vanilla ice-cream will keep drawing you back to the store.

So what do I think of this place? Fabulous. This is definitely my choice place for a British-style fish and chip place and since its Muslim friendly, I do think once any Malaysians tried it, they will definitely return for more. The food are fresh and taste is quite suited for Malaysians palette while there are ample choices on the menu for everyone.
