Conde Nast Traveler reader’s choice award has been published and Koh Phangan in Surat Thani has been voted the Best Island in Thailand and number 3 in Asia, after Cebu and Visayan Islands in the Philippines and Sri Lanka. It lies ahead of Phuket in Number 8 and Koh Samui in Number 10. Palawan, Siargao and Boracay help Philippines to record the most islands on the Top 10 list while Lombok and Bali came in No 7 and No 9 respectively for Indonesia.
Provincial governor Wichawut Jinto said that Koh Phangan has been hailed as one of the best islands in the world as it was rated among the “five best tourist islands in Asia”.
Mr Wichawut said the magazine presented Rin Nok beach on Koh Phangan where more than 30,000 mostly foreign tourists attend the full moon party nights. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has halted these parties but the governor said Koh Phangan had more to offer than just the full moon party. He said the island boasts a blend of nightlife and beautiful natural scenery. The beach is a perfect cove flanked by mountains.
To access Koh Phangan, tourists can fly to Koh Samui and catch a ferry to the island.
Apart from Rin Nok Beach, Koh Phangan also has other beautiful beaches – such as Thong Nai Pan, Khuad and Yao beaches and besides beaches, Than Sadet waterfall is also a landmark attraction on the island.
The governor gave his assurance that medical facilities on Koh Phangan are adequately equipped with healthcare services amid concerns of any fresh outbreak of COVID-19.
